No goats or cows for Fraser Island in new planning scheme

AS INTRIGUING as the idea of cows or goats on Fraser Island must have once seemed, the completed Fraser Coast Planning Scheme entertains no such possibility.

The dubious proposal was one put forward in the draft version of the scheme and could have seen parts of the island transformed into rural-residential areas.

Zoning maps instead now show most of the world heritage listed site as environmental management and conservation land.

Another headline grabber from the draft was changes to convert a substantial number of properties in Maryborough from commercial to residential.

Concerns of business owners appear to have been resolved by land such as the parcel housing the Carriers Arms Hotel, now acknowledged as mixed use.
