Special reunion for Childers rugby club

MEMORIES of an undefeated premiership season came flooding back when the 1960 Isis Rugby League Club got together for a reunion after 54 years.

Playing in the Bundaberg competition the players from Childers and surrounds went through the season undefeated against Natives, Railways and Brothers and beat Warfies in the grand final to cap off a remarkable year.

Not having a senior team in the 1960s, the Isis players had another season together in 1961 before they went their separate ways, playing in A-grade teams in Bundaberg and moving away for work.

Rugby league wasn't the only thing that was spoken about. After 54 years there was plenty of catching up to do, and with their wives in attendance the players were well behaved.

The players and their wives had such a good time they don't plan on waiting another 54 years before the next get together. It will become an annual event.

Mike Geaney, Graham Dowling, Barry McGuire (coach) and Larry Toll were part of the Isis Rugby League Club.
