IN A massive relief for the Northern Districts Rugby League competition, the Northern Force will field a team this season.

Earlier this week the side, created by a merger of the Agnes Water Marlins and Miriam Vale Magpies, called for players to prevent them from withdrawing from the competition.

It can now be revealed that 22 players signed on at Thursday night training to keep the team alive.

"We have a team and we are going ahead,” president Kym McIntosh said.

"We were really happy with who turned up.

"But the emphasis is to get more numbers.”

McIntosh said it was a relief to get the issue sorted out.

"I was stressed and the phone was ringing where people asked me what was happening,” she said.

"The thing is (we've had) great community support and the other NDRL clubs have given us support and that has been great.”

The side's next task is getting the number towards 30-35 to cover players who may be out due to injury during the season.

The Northern Force will start its season on March 4 against Gin Gin.
