New safety features for dam

A NORTH Burnett Dam is set to have new safety features installed to maintain safe operation during extreme weather events.

SunWater has begun work improving the primary spillway of Paradise Dam, near Biggenden.

While the dam is safe under current conditions, the work is being to as a preventative measure.

Improvements being made include strengthening the base of the primary spillway, downstream protection of the left hand side dam wall and construction of an access and drainage culvert.

While public facilities will not be affected, SunWater customers immediately downstream from the dam could experience disruptions to their water supply, though water demand will be managed via small ongoing releases.

Construction is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
