Name change for Bargara Bowls Club
THE NEW name of the Bargara Bowls Club has been revealed by Bundaberg Regional Council's Bargara representative Greg Barnes.
In a post on social media on Thursday Cr Barnes stated "After being acquired by the Bundaberg RSL Club, the Bargara Bowls Club has been re-named as the Sandhills Sports Club," he said.
"Some may consider it a bit lengthy but not only does it reflect a historical connection to the region's former name of 'Sandhills', it also recognises the historic presence of the bowl's club and the many residents that it's served over the years."
Cr Barnes said the area used to be known as Sandhills in the days before it was called Bargara.
"That's why we still have Sandhills Drv parallel to Bargara Rd between Hughes Rd and Davidson St," Cr Barnes said.
The NewsMail contacted the Bundaberg RSL Club for comment about the new name, but the offer was declined at this stage.
