Mysterious Moore Park Beach critter released to sea

IT LOOKS like something from another planet but never fear, we're not being invaded by little blue men.

The cute critter is a Glaucus atlanticus, a kind of pelagic sea slug.

Karina Elrick came across the animal while visiting family and friends in Moore Park.

"I come across one of these little guys washed up," she said.

"It's a Glaucus atlanticus. Just thought your readers might find it interesting that an amazing little creature is in the area."

The creature was released back into the ocean.

Humans handling these small creatures should be cautious however, as their bodies contain a stinging substance that can be dangerous and painful.
