‘My mind exploded’: Daniel Johns’ confession
ROCKER Daniel Johns has blamed "stage fright" for his retreat from the public eye after previously making headlines for his troubling behaviour.
The Silverchair frontman will make his first talk show appearance in 12 years, appearing on Tuesday night's Interview, hosted by Andrew Denton.
"Arrested for DUI, taken to hospital after falling over in a bar, collapsing in a cafe - you looked like a man in trouble," Denton tells Johns in a preview for the forthcoming episode.
Appearing uncomfortable at times, the gifted rocker opens up about his retreat from the spotlight and making music.
"My mind exploded. I get stage fright and can get really anxious," Johns said.
"I'd love to walk inside your head for a couple of hours," Denton responds.
"No, you wouldn't," the Silverchair frontman replies.
As the lead singer of Silverchair, Johns led the rock band to both critical and fan acclaim before the group disbanded in 2011.
Johns released his solo album Talk in 2015, however, the warm reception was marred by increasingly troubling behaviour in his personal life.
In February that year he was convicted and fined for drink driving, and in May was rushed to hospital after falling and hitting his head outside a Sydney bar.
In late 2016, photos emerged of Johns shirtless and wearing pink lipstick as he stumbled out of a cafe.
The singer has previously opened up about his battle with anorexia and depression.
Interview with Andrew Denton and Daniel Johns will air Tuesday night at 8.45pm on Channel 7.
