Quartet grabs wins dressage bronze
BUNDABERG'S Kimberly Boyd, Chloe and Kristy Sutton and Jessica Bunch produced a superb performance to finish third overall at the annual Zones Teams Dressage Challenge Championships on Sunday.
Representing Burnett Zone 7, the Musgrave Pony Club quartet each teamed to perfection with their horses Billy, Winky, Secret and Berdy respectively in the event at Southport Pony Club.
Individual team members completed two dressage tests each with their scores totalled to determine the results.
As a team, the Musgrave riders placed a very creditable third of 10 in the Novice Test 2E and fifth in Novice Test 2F to finish third overall in the Associates competition behind Sunshine Coast Zone 6.
The quartet received individual winning ribbons, as well as third overall rosettes and medallions.
Boyd said they were “all good friends” and that they were “very happy” with the result.
The 20-year-old university student said she, Kristy Sutton and Jessica Bunch were “all about the same age”, but that Chloe was a little younger at the age of 18 and nearing the end of Year 12 at Bundaberg North State High School.
Boyd said it was the fourth time she had competed at the Zones Challenge but it was her first tilt at the title for four years and that it was also good to be back.
“I last rode in the championships in 2006, obviously in a different age group and with a different team, but I think we also won bronze there, and I also competed in 2004 and 2005 when I think we were placed,” Boyd said
“I also rode at the 2007 nationals and got dressage team silver, but I don’t know whether I will get to the nationals again.
“But, we will certainly do the Zones Challenge again next year.”
