Mulan Jr musical sets stage for youth

MORE than 60 excitable youngsters aged 10-18 are in rehearsal for the beautifully moving musical Mulan Jr that opens at the Playhouse Theatre on July 23 for four performances.

The Youth Theatre members of the Bundaberg Players are throwing themselves into a foreign world and bringing the popular Disney movie to the local stage.

Defying the village matchmaker, Mulan, a young girl, takes up arms and disguises herself as a boy in order to spare her father from having to serve in the army.

The Huns have invaded, and it is up to the misfit Mulan to save the Emperor.

The show features a number of character roles and gives the large ensemble of young actors opportunities to play a number of supporting characters including soldiers, family members and brides to be.

The musical score includes favourites Reflection, Honour to Us All and I'll Make a Man Out of You, as well as new songs that will get the audience up on its feet.

All tickets are $15. Performances are at 7.30pm on July 23-25 and 3pm on July 25. The box office opens Saturdays and Sundays 9am-noon and tickets are available at www.theplay housetheatre.org.au.
