MP's office evacuated

MP Rob Messenger and his staff evacuated their Bargara office yesterday after receiving threats of violence from a member of the public.

Mr Messenger said he was alerted to the threat by a health care professional, and had confirmed the information with Bundaberg Police.

“We closed the office immediately and contacted the police, who are dealing with the situation,” Mr Messenger said.

The MP said he would not re-open his office until he knew it was safe.

The man who allegedly made the threats was known to Mr Messenger, and is believed to have mental health issues.

“(This threat) is a sign that Queensland Health is failing not only sick people, but also the police who have to try and help mentally ill people who should be in psychiatric care.”
