MP in hot water over property developer donation

GOLD Coast MP Stuart Robert has come under fire after an investigation by Fairfax media drew links between donations made to the Queensland LNP and a speech he made in defence of a property development firm.

In 2012 Mr Robert made a speech in Federal Parliament in which he defended the property development firm Sunland which was, at the time, embroiled in a dispute that saw two Australian men imprisoned in Dubai.

"I know the Sunland directors well and their integrity is beyond reproach," Mr Robert said in a speech which Fairfax claims was partially written by staff from Sunland.

Fairfax Media reports Sunland founder and chairman Soheil Abedian personally donated $12,500 to the Queensland Liberal National Party in July 2013 - which has led Labor's Shadow Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus to label his conduct as "cash for comment."

Mr Robert's office has been contacted for comment.
