MP wants to scrap fluoride plans

MEMBER for Burnett Rob Messenger yesterday called on Anna Bligh to scrap the state government’s water fluoridation plan, saying the funds should be redirected towards improving overall water quality instead.

“Bundaberg Regional Council...has been forced by this state government to fluoridate its water supplies, yet state funding will only cover the fluoride treatment of 30% of water which comes from surface supplies, and fails to include funding for the 70% of water supplied from underground sources,” Mr Messenger said.

“Bundaberg Regional Council...will be forced to increase rates to pay for an initiative which many rural and regional Queenslanders do not want.”
