MP accuses health minister of lies
MEMBER for Burnett Rob Messenger has accused health minister Geoff Wilson of lying in a response to a question on notice he asked about staff numbers at Childers Hospital.
Mr Messenger had asked how many nurses work at the hospital currently and for the past four years.
"It currently employs the equivalent of 17 full-time equivalent nurses, which is the highest level of nursing staff for Wide Bay rural hospitals," Mr Wilson said in reply.
"Additional staff are rostered in accordance with patient needs that fluctuates on a daily and seasonal basis, that includes staff on call to assist in times of increased acuity."
But that did not satisfy Mr Messenger.
"The Minister for Health has a track record of delivering inaccurate information to parliament, and I'm worried that he's lied to parliament again with this reply," Mr Messenger said.
"I've asked him to provide details of the actual amount of full time nurse equivalent positions and casual positions at Childers Hospital for the last four years, and he's completely ignored the question and failed to supply those figures. Why is he covering up?"
The NewsMail is seeking a reply from Mr Wilson.
