Moore Park wants team in top comp
AN experienced head coach and a talented goal keeper are on the top of Moore Park Beach Football Club’s Christmas wish list as the club tries to celebrate its 15th season with its first ever division one men’s team.
Director of coaching Fiona Stevenson said yesterday that the club was an experienced head coach away from securing its first ever berth in the Archem Premier League.
“There’s a lot of support out at Moore Park and from juniors who have come through and are playing in Bundaberg who are keen to come back,” Stevenson said.
“Originally we planned to start a division one men’s team in 2011 but other parties have come to us and asked us to do it.”
The club has experienced massive growth in the past five years.
This year it won Football Bundaberg’s Junior Club of the Year.
It also won the award in 2007.
This year was also the first time the club had a men’s team in the division 2 competition, while 2008 was the first year the club had a team in the men’s division 3 competition.
Stevenson hoped the club could also attract a coach for a division 1 women’s team, which did not compete last year.
“There were a number of players that left last year so we just went with a division 2 team,” she said.
Stevenson said the club’s 15th anniversary presented a perfect platform for the launch of the first ever division 1 men’s team.
“It will be a big year for the club and there will be a lot of excitement out there,” she said.
She said there was already a group of assistant coaches available at the club.
The club hopes to have a coach in place for men’s and women’s teams before next year, so training can start in January.
