Moliks return strikes WA gold

ALICIA Molik’s tennis comeback is on track after beating Olivia Rogowska in yesterday’s final of the Goldfields St Ives International in Kalgoorlie.

The former world No.8 gained a measure of revenge on Rogowska for beating her in the final of last week’s satellite event at Esperance.

The first set went to a tie-break that Molik won eight points to six, and then she controlled the second set over the No.1 seed to win it 6-3.

Molik made the final after beating West Australian youngster Jessica Moore 6-1, 6-2 and is looking in terrific shape and form since emerging from retirement in September.

The 28-year-old’s regional tour will continue at Bendigo in Victoria this week, part of her campaign to play in January’s Australian Open.

Queenslander John Millman won the men’s Kalgoorlie final 6-2 7-6 (7-1) over West Australian Matthew Ebden who had eliminated top seed Brydan Klein in the semi-finals.

Second seed, New Zealander Daniel King-Turner, was in good form but lost to Millman in the semis.
