Men should shed their loneliness
ARE you a bloke with some spare time up your sleeve who is looking to meet new people and learn new skills?
Look no further than the Childers Men's Shed, which formed just last week.
The Childers Men's Shed is the project of Lachie McConnell, who has been campaigning to get the organisation up and running in the town for the past 12 months.
The concept of the men's shed is to help to reduce loneliness and build friendships, in turn providing major mental health benefits.
Mr McConnell said it was a great way for men to come together shoulder to shoulder, have a cup of coffee and have a chat to get things off their chest.
"Women are lucky because they've got the QCWA, but there's nowhere for the men," Mr McConnell said.
"Once men get over the age of 60, their suicidal rate gets higher and higher... men have a habit of bottling up their feelings."
The Childers Men's Shed currently has 10 members, and they are on the lookout for new faces to join them.
Next on the agenda of the newly formed group will to find a suitable shed to hold their gatherings.
