Men in white back on the field after short break
WHO needs a break between the football and cricket season? Does a couple of weeks off to gather your thoughts after the week-to-week grind of the winter sports sound like a good idea?
Well, that's too bad because seven days after the last winter sport grand final was played, Bundaberg's cricketers are about to roll the arm over and try find the middle of the bat in the first weekend of the season.
Action gets under way with five rounds of Twenty20 matches at Kendalls Flat, and defending premiers Across The Waves should be dangerous in the shortest form of the game with plenty of the championship team backing up this year.
Because of the short break between winter sport and Australia's favourite summer sport number had been down at training across the clubs, but as the pitches have been prepared this week at Kendalls Flat the players have come out to get ready.
Rhys Grills, Across The Waves Cricket Club president, said the few players who have been at training over the past few weeks were replaced with a flood of cricketers keen to get the season started.
With only a few teams in the Division 1 competition this season players from Div 2 will be facing up to the men from the top grade.
Round 1 of the mixed competition starts at 9am Sunday with ATW taking on Brothers (Div 2), Brothers against Past Highs and Norths playing ATW (Div 2).
The grand final of the T20 season will be played on October 25 at Kendalls Flat.
Along with the senior games, Bundaberg's juniors will be out in the whites tomorrow morning getting their season started.
Some clubs are still looking for players and the invitation is open for any junior players to get along to Kendalls Flat.
Players are asked to be at the grounds at 8am for an 8.30am start.
