Mayor's appeal for more donations

BUNDABERG Mayor Lorraine Pyefinch is asking for more support for this year's Christmas appeal, with only $4917.95 of the $20,000 target raised so far.

"I am calling on everyone to dig deep to help give needy families in our region a very special Christmas," Cr Pyefinch said.

"We really want to reach our goal of $20,000, so we have a long way to go."

Cr Pyefinch said despite the slow start to the 2011 Mayor's Christmas Appeal, the community had raised a sizeable sum with last Friday's Go Christmassy Day.

"We are waiting for all the donations to come in, but indications are that at least $1000 was raised on the day," she said.

Cr Pyefinch said Bundaberg Regional Council had chipped in its own donation of $2500.

She said businesses could get behind the campaign by collecting funds at their end-of-year functions.

Donations to the appeal can be deposited at Wide Bay Australia branches and regional council centres in Bundaberg, Bargara, Childers and Gin Gin.

Copies of the News-Mail's Best of the Bundy Region calendar can still be purchased at the NewsMail office on Woondooma St for $10.95 with $1 from each one sold going to the appeal.
