Mayor gets ready to chill out in ice bucket challenge

BUNDABERG Mayor Mal Forman is ready for an ice-cold challenge.

Cr Forman said thanks to Wide Bay Australia CEO Martin Barrett's nomination he would be taking the ice bucket challenge after the official proceedings at this Sunday's Bundaberg Multicultural Festival.

"I won't say I was thrilled to hear Martin had nominated me after taking the challenge himself but it is only fitting that our region's political leaders should join our business leaders in their bravery," Cr Forman said.

"At the end of the day it is a bit of fun to raise money and awareness for motor neurone disease so I am happy to risk the shock treatment and accept this challenge.

"While I'm sure there is a number of people out there who would like to see me doused with a bucket of water, let's not lose sight of the real goal here. I will be passing a bucket around for donations at the festival so I hope to see everyone there so we can raise some money for a great cause."

The ice bucket challenge is raising money and awareness for motor neurone disease and Cr Forman said any funds raised as a result of his involvement would be donated to MND Australia.
