Mayor cancels China trip due to eye condition

Bundaberg Mayor Mal Forman has been forced to cancel a planned trip to Hong Kong and Chinese sister city Nanning.

Cr Forman said he developed an "unexpected and very sudden eye condition".

"Air travel has been ruled out until the eye condition improves," he said.

Cr Forman said the trip to Hong Kong was to involve meetings with local Food Association representatives who had recently visited Bundaberg.

"We really are attempting to build relationships that can advantage our fruit and vegetable and tree crop growers.  But I am sure there will be other opportunities in the future," Cr  Forman said.

"The Mayor of Nanning has expressed similar deep disappointment that we cannot be represented at the Nanning International Sister Cities Exchange and Co-operation Seminar as we are ranked as number one in Nanning's 19 sister city relationships."

Cr Forman funds his own travel when attending overseas engagements.
