Crashes cause 23km of M1 gridlock

MOTORISTS are in 23km of gridlock hell after two crashes on the M1 this afternoon as storms lashed the Gold Coast.

Drivers can expect significant delays on the M1 southbound between exit 62 and 66 after a multi vehicle crash this afternoon.

The crash which happened at 2.20pm near the Helensvale overpass and is now causing more than 23km of gridlock, with drivers backed up from Ormeau to as far as Gaven.

Paramedics have arrived at the scene with two crews and said no one is trapped inside the vehicles.

Police are also attending a multi vehicle crash on the M1 northbound at Tugun near exit 95.

Police said there was no injuries

Meanwhile a car has rolled on the Gold Coast Highway at Arundel at 1pm.

Queensland ambulance said the male driver had minor cuts and neck pain but declined transport to hospital.

It comes as trains on the Gold Coast line between Bethania and Kingston stations were suspended due to a police incident. Services have since resumed.
