Mates still at the top after 25 years
IN 1989 our hair was bigger, Bob Hawke was prime minister and the first magnum ice creams went on sale, while this was all happening Daniel Stanton-Cook and Darren McCracken won the state junior pairs title.Fast forward 25 years and there's more good news than just the mullets being trimmed because Stanton-Cook and McCracken are still winning titles.
Defeating reigning champions Jason Andrewartha and Steve McNamee on the way to the finals gave them some confidence before they had to face off with players who were at the top of their game.
McCracken said being mates with Stanton-Cook for so long helped when the games got tough and the pressure was on. When you know someone so well you just go with the flow, but if you play with someone else you might stress out," McCracken said.
