Maryborough Brothers to defend BRL reserve grade title

MARYBOROUGH Brothers' defence of its Bundaberg Rugby League reserve grade premiership is evidence of a strong year.

That's the view of club president Nic Golusin, who quietly confident of his team's chances in Sunday's final against Past Brothers.

"I knew they had the team to get there, for sure. They've done the hard work, they just need it to come together,” he said.

The Lincoln Willmot- coached team beat Wests Panthers 38-10 last week to qualify for the decider.

While he admitted the game would be tough, Golusin said it capped a strong year for the club.

Maryborough Brothers fielded an A-grade side for the first time in 15 years, and while the team struggled for results they played the entire season.

"It's huge for the club, especially since we have that A-grade team and the prospect of going back-to-back in reserve grade,” Golusin said.

"Our A-grade team will get even better in future.

"We have handled the tough step up really well, and this success shows the depth we have at the club.

"I'm very proud.”

Past Brothers won two of three games this season.

The reserve grade grand final is scheduled for a 12.30 pm kick-off at Bundaberg's Salter Oval on Sunday.
