Marlene Lang first UGLY bartender
GIN GIN Hotel employee Marlene Lang is not ashamed to be the region’s “UGLY-est” bartender — in fact, she has a lot to be proud of.
She has raised a whopping $6926 for the Leukaemia Foundation, beating 26 other bartenders across the Wide Bay, Central Highland and Central and South Burnett regions to take the title of Queensland’s first UGLY (Understanding, Generous, Likeable You) bartender.
The 2009 UGLY Bartender competition raised more than $40,000 for medical research, support services and accommodation for patients with leukaemia, myeloma, lymphoma and other blood related diseases.
The runner-up was Amy Regan from the Lighthouse Hotel in Burnett Heads, who raised $6003, while Sonya Zunker from the East Bundaberg Sports Club received a High Achievers Award.
“We had some really funny and wonderful fundraising events throughout the region,” Leukaemia Foundation assistant regional community fundraiser Tunja Cottier said.
