Manly rewards Toovey with extended deal

MANLY has rewarded coach Geoff Toovey for getting the team into last year's NRL grand final by extending his contract until the end of 2016.

The former champion playmaker took over the reins after former favourite son Des Hasler left to join the Bulldogs in 2012.

Since then, Toovey (pictured) has guided the Sea Eagles to consecutive top-four finishes, including the 26-18 loss to the Roosters in the 2013 season-decider.

"We fell short last year but I'm quite confident we've got a side that can give it a shake this year and that's exactly what we will be doing,'' Toovey said.

General manager Dave Perry said the entire club was thrilled Toovey had agreed to the two-year extension. "You wouldn't find a more passionate and committed leader of the Sea Eagles and this will no doubt rub off on the playing group and the culture of the club," he said.
