Train delayed as man armed with screwdriver injures woman

UPDATE: A MAN armed with a screwdriver who sparked a manhunt at a Sunshine Coast train station has been spoken to by police. 

While initial reports indicated the man had a knife, police say it was a screwdriver. 

A Queensland Police media spokesman said one woman was injured but did not want to press charges. 

The incident, which unfolded at 1.12pm, delayed the Brisbane-bound train for 45 minutes. 

 

EARLIER A MANHUNT is under way at Beerburrum as patrolling police search for a man armed with a knife.

Emergency services responded at about 1.10pm after a woman was reportedly injured at Beerburrum Train Station.

Initial reports indicate the man was on the train threatening passengers before running off over the railway bridge.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said police were patrolling the area searching for the man.

She said the man was described as caucasian, in his mid-30s, and wearing a black shirt and black baseball cap.

The spokeswoman said the injured woman was "bleeding from the mouth" but did not require further treatment from paramedics. 

The train, which was heading to Brisbane, was delayed by 45 minutes.
