Man steals $3500 of goods in morning shopping spree

A BRAZEN thief has taken the "Just Do It" Nike slogan a bit too literally after callously making off with more than $3500 in work-out apparel.

Police are on the lookout for a man - possibly now sharply dressed in the latest gym gear - after he ran from A-Mart Sports armed with bags carrying more than 50 items for which he failed to pay.

Shortly before 10am, the man entered the shop, picked up a number of empty bags which he filled with items from the racks.

He then took them to the front counter where staff deactivated the security tags, rang them up on the register and placed them back in the bag, waiting for payment.

But the man had other ideas, instead picking up the bags and running from the store.

Police said he got into a dark coloured four-wheel drive ute and left the scene.

Despite a search for the vehicle the man was not apprehended.

The average price of the stolen items was about $70.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Policelink on 131 444.
