'Car rammed after abduction attempt'

A MAN charged with deliberately side-swiping a woman's car following a failed abduction attempt has appeared in court.

Bradley Wayne Trussell, 20, of Redbank Plains, appeared at Ipswich Magistrates Court yesterday, charged with two counts of deprivation of liberty, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, two counts of wilful damage, two counts of common assault and unlincensed driving.

The charges arise out of an incident at Redbank Plains about noon on Wednesday. Police allege Trussell forced a 23-year-old woman into a car, however the woman escaped and flagged down a passing female motorist. Trussell is accused of then pursuing the motorist - who also had her two children in the car at the time - forcing her off the road at Alawoona St.

The 23-year-old woman, who police said was known to Trussell, was not injured. However the female motorist sustained minor injuries and was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital for treatment. The woman's children were not injured.

Police yesterday opposed bail for Trussell, who appeared in the dock wearing brown prison clothing. Magistrate Donna MacCallum adjourned the bail application so more information could be gathered on the defendant's prior convictions, originating from South Australia. Trussell was remanded in custody until the case is heard on February 1.
