Man punched and robbed in street attack

John Gass

THE Dog Squad was used to find three people hiding in a storm drain after one of them allegedly punched and robbed a man in the Bundaberg CBD.

Criminal Investigation Branch Detective Sergeant Andrew Self said a 28-year-old man was "king-hit" while walking near the library in Woondooma St, about 3.30am Sunday morning.

"He was king-hit and knocked to the ground where the assault continued," Sgt Self said.

"The offender has stolen the victim's iPhone and wallet and run away from the scene with two other males," he said.

"Police tracked the three suspects to a storm drain in the Kepnock area."

Sgt Self said the Dog Squad found and arrested three men hiding in the drain.

"Police recovered the stolen phone and a portion of the stolen cash," he said.

Police charged a 21-year-old man with robbery with violence.

He will appear in the Bundaberg Magistrates Court next month.

The victim was treated by Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics at Bundaberg Police Station for injuries to his left eye, upper lip and nose before being taken to Bundaberg Hospital for further assessment.
