Man impaled by pole: hunt for truck driver

A MAN has been seriously injured after a metal object fell from a truck and into his moving vehicle north of Toowoomba.

Police are seeking public help to identify the truck involved in the incident near Nanango last night.

Early information suggests about 6.15pm a car travelling northbound on the Burnett Hwy collided with a metal object which fell from a truck heading southbound, about 26km north of Nanango.

The object went through the car windscreen and struck the 48-year-old male driver in the head, causing serious injuries.

The 46-year-old male passenger of the car took the injured man to Goomeri for help.

He was then taken to Kingaroy Hospital before being airlifted to Brisbane in a stable condition.

Police are now searching for anyone who may have seen the crash happen or the driver of a flatbed truck with a New Holland round baler and hay raker on the back in the area at the time.

Police believe the driver may not know they were involved in the crash.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
