Backpacker punched in home invasion

A KOREAN backpacker is in hospital after being punched in the head during a home invasion in the early hours of this morning.

The backpacker was asleep in his Targo St home when the man went into the home just before 3am taking wallets, laptops and iPods.

The backpacker awoke, startling the man, who punched him in the head before fleeing on foot.

Another man who lived downstairs chased the man, but he got away.

Bundaberg police Detective Senior Sergeant Joe Hildred said the thief was described as about 188cm tall with curly, dark hair.

Snr Sgt Hildred said two cars were also broken into at a home on Phoebe Cr, Kensington, last night.

He said stereo equipment was taken from the cars.

Snr Sgt Hildred said an unknown vehicle seen in the area.
