Man goes for the naughty trifecta
A 23-YEAR-OLD man who was found fighting on the street, caught smoking cannabis outside a hotel and drove while disqualified was sentenced to six months in prison in the Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Monday.
Christopher George Hite pleaded guilty to public nuisance, drunk driving, driving while disqualified, possessing a dangerous drug and possession utensils.
Police Prosecutor Sergeant Barry Stevens said Hite was seen fighting with another man in the Toowoomba CBD at about 2am on July 19, 2009.
Sgt Stevens said Hite was also pulled over in Toowoomba and registered a blood alcohol level of 0.146%.
The sergeant said licence checks had revealed that Hite's licence had been disqualified for 24 months.
Sgt Stevens told the court that on March 12, police saw Hite light a green pipe outside a Bundaberg hotel.
Closer inspection found cannabis in the pipe.
Defence lawyer Simon Burgess said Hite had recently found work as a farm hand planting trees in Bundaberg.
Magistrate Jennifer Batts said sentenced Hite to a total of six months with a parole release date of May 3.
Ms Batts also disqualified Hite from driving for three years.
