Man found ‘passed out and drug affected' in private shower
A man who fled after he was caught passed out and drug affected in a complex shower was found by police hiding in a storage shed.
Leslie Robert Barber pleaded guilty by written plea to three charges including trespassing and obstructing police in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on July 8.
Police prosecutor Lee Allan told the court that on April 2, at 5.45pm, Barber was found by the manager of a long-term accommodation Yandina complex in the shower.
“The manager contacted police saying there was a person located in the communal shower on the ground level passed out and drug affected,” he said.
“The showers only granted access to the residents of the complex and the manager did not know who he was.”
The court heard after Barber was confronted by the manager, he fled on foot and was located by police on a push bike on Warana Dr.
“At that time, the defendant has begun to flee on foot. He was told to stop by police and fled on foot, running down Warana Drive,” Sen Constable Allan said.
“He then entered a yard and the occupants saw him go through the pool gate behind the shed and move towards a storage area for timber.
“At that point police observed the back and legs of a male tucked up behind the timber.
“He was asked to comply by showing his hands which he failed to do and then struggled with police when he restrained.”
Magistrate Rod Madsen fined Barber $680.
Convictions were recorded.
