Man caught at insane speeds on M1

A DRIVER has been denied bail after allegedly being clocked by police doing up to 192km/hr on the M1 at more than 80km/hr over the speed limit.

Police allegedly recorded Dylan Edgecombe, 21 of Nanango, doing 134km/hr on the Pacific Motorway between the Binstead Way off ramp at Nerang and the Mt Tamborine off ramp just before 3am on Sunday.

Police gave chase and allegedly recorded Edgecombe, who was driving a silver Kia, at speeds up to 192km/hr.

Edgecombe disputes he was going that fast.

Police were on the highway conducting regular traffic patrols.

Defence lawyer Joe Wicking told the court Edgecombe was on the Gold Coast for work and was currently driven to and from work.

Edgecombe did not enter a plea to one charge each of failing to stop and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

Magistrate Dermot Keogh denied bail as the offences were allegedly committed while Edgecombe was on parole.

The matter will return to court on December 19.
