Man back in jail after 4 days out

ONLY four days after being released from prison, Allan Gordon Finegan was on his way back there yesterday.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Barry Stevens told Bundaberg Magistrates Court that Finegan was on parole and had been released from jail on Thursday last week.

He said Finegan was staying at a men's hostel in Bundaberg.

However, the hostel had rules regarding the consumption of alcohol by residents.

Sgt Stevens said Finegan returned to the hostel at 9.45pm on Saturday heavily affected by alcohol.

When one of the hostel workers asked him to leave he swung a punch at the man, hitting him in the chest.

He then locked himself in his room.

Finegan was charged with common assault and trespassing.

Sgt Stevens said he had a “regrettable and sad” criminal history that ran to nine pages.

The court was told Finegan was being treated for cancer and his pain relief was not very effective.

Magistrate Jennifer Batts said she took into account Finegan's early guilty plea.

She also took into account his long history of matters of a similar nature.
