Man attacks police dog after failed attempt at crime spree

LOGAN police have charged a man after a series of incidents around Berrinba and Logan Central yesterday afternoon.

Police will allege the man stole a car from a Camelia Avenue residence in Logan Central sometime around 3pm and crashed into a parked vehicle on Cedarwood Street, Berrinba as well as through the fence of a nearby residence. The man then ran from scene and allegedly attempted to gain access to a number of moving vehicles in the vicinity.

The Dog Squad tracked the man to an address in Logan Central where he allegedly refused to obey police direction. He was apprehended by a police dog and is alleged to have hit the dog several times before being taken into custody.

The man was taken to the Logan Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries to his leg.

A 25-year-old Waterford man has been charged with thirteen offences including assault police officer, attempting to injure a police dog, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, attempted unlawful entry of a vehicle, burglary and drug possession. He is due to appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Monday.

Investigations are continuing.
