Man allegedly strangles ibis to death, threatens passers-by

A MAN has allegedly taken an ibis by the neck and strangled it till it died this morning.

Police say he then threatened other members of the public with the dead bird as they walked by.

The incident allegedly took place around 5:30am on George Street in Brisbane's CBD.

Police spoke to the man at the scene and are now looking for anyone who witnessed the death or may have footage of it to come forward.

District Duty Officer Senior Sergeant Neville Mills said police take matters of animal cruelty extremely seriously.

"Attacks of this nature will not be tolerated and those responsible will be dealt with to the full extent of the law," he said.
