Man, 50, arrested in major sexual assaults investigation

A GOLD Coast man is accused of sexually assaulting four women between 2008 and 2016 and is suspected of a further eight assaults.

The 50-year-old man was arrested this morning under Operation Melya, a Queensland Police Service investigation that is still ongoing.

In a statement Queensland Police said the man would likely be charged with a number of offences and would be denied police bail. He is expected to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.

The most recent alleged assault happened in February 2016 in Southport.

The other alleged incidents date back to January 2016, November 2015 and October 2008.

Police urged anyone who may have been a victim to contact them.

Regional Crime Coordinator South Eastern Police Region Detective Superintendent Kerry Johnson said the man's arrest came after hundreds of hours of work that including combing through sexual assault reports from 2008 and numerous Crime Stopper reports made after a public appeal.

Police are still investigating another eight alleged incidents dating back to 2005.
