Man, 49, touched juvenile

A 49-YEAR-OLD man has been jailed for four months after being found guilty of the indecent treatment of a child under 16.

The man, who can not be named to protect the identity of the victim, was sentenced in the Bundaberg District Court today.

The court heard the offence took place sometime between February 2002 and November 2003, when the female victim was aged 12-13 years old.

In sentencing, Judge Michael Burnett said the complainant was asleep on the lounge when she woke to find the defendant touching her inappropriately on the outside of her clothing.

Crown prosector Mel Wilson said there was a family relationship between the victim and the defendant.

She said victim was betrayed by someone who should have protected her.

The defendant was sentenced to four months jail followed by a probation period of 18 months.
