Mal keeping the city running till new council is decided
BUNDABERG Mayor Mal Forman is keeping the city running while the make-up of the new Bundaberg Regional Council is decided.
"I'm still mayor," Cr Forman said.
He said the council was still in caretaker mode, which meant no major decisions binding on the new council could be made.
However, the operational processes in the council were continuing.
"I can sign documents to keep the process going," Cr Forman said.
"It all goes through the CEO to keep the operational stuff going."
A spokesman for the Electoral Council Queensland said a declaration of the result for each mayoral and councillor election and for the referendum would not be made if there was a mathematical possibility that more than one candidate or argument could win.
Consequently, a result might not be declared until after postal votes were due to be returned to the commission on Tuesday.
"Recounts are not automatic but a candidate may request that the commission conducts one," he said.
"The Local Government Electoral Act 2011 provides that recounts are conducted entirely at the discretion of the Electoral Commissioner.
"It is the policy of the commission that each request for a recount received is assessed on its own merits based on the information available."
