3yo donates $200 to charity

THE Make-A-Wish Foundation ensures children's dreams come true, but there was a role reversal this week when a three-year-old child made a donation to the group.

At Stephanie Schapiro's third birthday party on Sunday, all her invited friends were asked not to purchase gifts, but instead to donate funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The birthday party raised $200.

Stephanie's mum Julie Groves said her daughter did not miss out on presents, with plenty from her family.

“She had 17 children invited to her birthday and we just thought it would be better if it went to a good cause,” Dr Groves said.

“We thought that because Stephanie is a little child it would be nice to help a charity that helps children.

“She is a healthy little girl and we can appreciate her health.”

Make-A-Wish president Pat Russell said she could not believe a young child had donated to the group.

“I was quite blown away by it,” she said. “We're always giving to children, and to have a little girl give us something was pretty awesome.”
