Boy, 11, injured after pouring accelerant onto fire

AN 11-YEAR-OLD Maryborough boy was lucky to escape serious injury after he poured accelerant onto a fire on the weekend, leaving him with burns to his face, arms and legs

It is believed the incident happened just after 1pm on Saturday.

The boy was taken to Maryborough Hospital emergency department at 1.30pm.

According to a Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman, as well as having superficial burns, the boy was also suffering from a compromised airway after the incident.

A Wide Bay Health spokesman said the boy's burns were not serious.

"He sustained burns to his face, forearms and thighs, but was in a stable condition," the spokesman said.

The RACQ CareFlight Medivac helicopter was called to take the boy to Brisbane for further treatment.

"RACQ CareFlight was tasked to Maryborough Hospital Saturday afternoon around 4pm to airlift a preteen male that had suffered burns to his body after an accident," an RACQ spokesman said.

"He sustained superficial burns...and was airlifted to the Lady Cilento Children's Hospital in Brisbane in a stable condition."

The boy left Maryborough about 7.30pm and arrived at Lady Cilento hospital about 9pm. He received treatment on Saturday night and was discharged from the Brisbane hospital yesterday morning.
