TEN years after he started studying speech and drama, Bundaberg student Jack McGovern has been awarded two associate diplomas from a prestigious English college.

Mr McGovern has been awarded the diplomas in musical theatre and performance speech and drama by Trinity College, London, after examiners travelled to Bundaberg to evaluate him.

Students Leila Swinbourne and Katie Huston, who are both studying in Brisbane, also received diplomas.

Mr McGovern, who studied under Bec Hutchins at Drama Queens – The Studio, in Bundaberg, said he had started studying psychology at CQUniversity and was not really planning a performing career.

“But it's really good that we have access to these opportunities in Bundaberg,” he said.

Bundaberg Trinity College representative Robyn Edgar said part of her job was to organise venues and accommodation for the examiners.

“The examiners travel out from England and go around Australia doing these examinations,” she said.
