Locals can't get enough of Bundy's fresh seafood
NOTHING screams Aussie Christmas like fresh prawns and seafood, and with a smorgasbord of delights on our doorstop, there's plenty of options to create a top notch seafood frenzy.
Red Shed Seafood on Quay St owner Marguerite Conroy-Mills said they would open extended hours in the countdown to Christmas, with crowds expected to make the most of the fresh produce coming straight off the trawlers.
"We're going to have some really beautiful tiger prawns, they're beauties,” she said.
"It's nice to have cold food when the weather's hot and we'll have plenty of everything.
"We'll have plenty of scallops to take us through, and Moreton Bay bugs.
"We've got beautiful pacific oysters, this year's jumbo ones are just amazing.
"Our fishermen arrive on Monday so we'll also have some fresh, whole fish next week.”
For those who want to get in early or are picking up seafood from out of town, Red Shed Seafood also have frozen products on sale and open today and every day right up until 6pm Christmas Eve.
"We're open 9am to 2pm tomorrow,” Ms Conroy-Mills said.
"We're open from 7am to 6pm every day next week and then on Christmas Eve we're open from 5am to 6pm.
"We will be flat out but we get through our crowds really quickly, we have a lot of staff behind the counter.”
Down the road at Midtown Chandlery prawn sales have already picked up with customers stocking up in preparation for their Christmas festivities.
Andrea Imbrioscia said already the prawns were proving the most popular seafood for Christmas and she recommends getting in as early as possible.
"This week we've already seen people in choosing cartons of prawns,” she said.
"We've got different sizes in the tiger prawns and we do have some scallops and Moreton Bay bugs.
"If people are after big amounts I recommend they come in sooner, just in case we start getting low towards the end of the week.”
