Mum pulls 27-tonne truck in world record attempt

FIT mum Nardia Styles is putting money where her muscles are as she attempts to pull a 27-tonne truck to raise money for two causes close to her heart.

The Clear Island Waters local, who has been doing weight training for the last three years and competing in fitness competitions, is attempting to smash the female truck pull world record.

She will take on the challenge to raise money and awareness for Barnardos and the White Ribbon foundation.

The 41-year-old has been hitting the gym hard, working on her strength and grip in preparation for challenge, in which she must pull the truck 30 metres.
"We had a practise pulling a 17-tonne truck, and I pulled that 15 metres but it was actually much harder than I thought it would be," she said.

"I've got to do a bit more practise to work up to the full 30 metres, but I know I can definitely do it.

"My nine-year-old son thinks it's pretty funny.

"He's used to me doing crazy things though."

Ms Styles chose the two children's charities as a few of her closest friends had been affected by child abuse.

"You hear so many stories of people you know affected by child abuse and it happens so often I wanted to help in some way," she said.

"I like to promote that we as women are strong and that we are stronger together.
"This is why I chose a strength related record."

The existing record stands at 8000kg but Ms Styles is attempting to double that because she is "not satisfied with just beating it".

Ms Styles will perform the "truck-pull" on March 31 at a yet-to-be-chosen location.
