LNP push for public bus run
AN LNP government would push for better coastal bus services in the Bundaberg region.
Opposition transport spokesman Scott Emerson visited Bundaberg yesterday to talk to bus companies, Bundaberg Regional Council and local people about public transport in the region.
Mr Emerson said it was essential public transport worked for the people.
He said the government had to make sure the system met the needs of public transport users.
Member for Bundaberg Jack Dempsey said the Labor government had treated public transport as an afterthought in Bundaberg, and there was not even a regular service to the coastal area.
"We sorely need a change in government so we can get a proper public transport plan for Bundaberg and realign services to suit our region's needs," he said.
LNP candidate for Burnett Stephen Bennett said the lack of services to coastal towns such as Burnett Heads and Elliott Heads discouraged people from using public transport to get to work.
"How can a working person be expected to catch public transport from Burnett Heads when there isn't a bus service after the school run in the afternoon?" he asked.
