Little Free Library a labour of love
“I’LL miss painting the box,” East Bundaberg Rotarian Ian Mylrea said.
This Little Free Library at the Bundaberg YMCA has been a labour of love for the Rotary Group, which partnered with Bundaberg Regional Libraries to set up four across the region.
Curious readers can pick up a book for free, and anyone with books to spare can drop them off at each organisation where there is a Little Free Library.
Bundaberg Regional Councillor Judy Peters said the project was about encouraging people to simply enjoy reading without judgement.
“It doesn’t matter what your literacy skills are,” she said.
So far the boxes, each with a unique design, were being well used and book donations had kept up a good supply, Cr Peters said.
“It will be great for people to be able to pick up a book on the way in or out, and improve literacy in our community,” YMCA CEO Phillip Sellwood said.
There are now six LFLs across Bundaberg, including at Bargara Beach Caravan Park, the Bundaberg Neighbourhood Centre, and Bundaberg Hospital.
