SHIP AHOY: P&O; Cruise ship Pacific Dawn leaves the Gladstone port. Paul Braven GLADAWNLEAVES

Letter: Liner comments

I'M SURPRISED at the negative Facebook feedback comments in the paper about the cruise liner going to Gladstone (NM, 02/03/16).

It would be nice if a cruise ship could berth at Bundy.

Preparations for this to happen are made well in advance.

First, is the port able to cater for the needs of the ship?

This involves depth of water, berthage, provisioning, tourist attractions and many other things.

Obviously, Bundy has been involved because buses will bring tourist here for sightseeing and shopping.

All of these arrangements have been done well in advance of the announcement.

Be thankful that we will be getting some of the benefits of these cruises and build on it.

Everything will not be going to Gladstone exclusively.

Rockhampton and other places will be benefiting also. It takes a lot of forward planning to get to this stage.

There will be regular reviews after each ship visits to see if the mix was suitable.

That is the golden opportunity to offer suggestions from Bundy.

Do you have ideas for other attractions, then put in your well-researched suggestion.

The same goes for fruit and vegetables. Contact the agent who is handling the provisioning and find out their needs and put in your offer.

Don't rubbish our neighbour Gladstone.

They have the second-best natural harbour in Australia, and all the berthing and other facilities already.

This venture will only succeed if the three cities already involved work together.

A final thought. Gladstone finances keep the ports of Rockhampton and Bundaberg afloat.
