UPDATE: Storm causes flood in city's library

UPDATE: More than a third of the Bundaberg Regional Library has been flooded after a thunderstorm hit the Bundaberg region early this morning.

Operational Supervisor for libraries, arts and theatre, David Cornwell, said no books were damaged in the inundation.

Computers, a television and furniture were damaged and more than a third of the carpeted floor area had 2cm of water over it.

The reason for the leak is unknown at this stage but it is thought a blocked gutter may be the cause.

Mr Cornwell said cleaners were currently vacuuming up the water and getting ready to install blower fans to dry out the carpet.

He said the library would be open for business on Monday but may be missing some computer terminals.

In every other way things would be back to normal.

EARLIER: HEAVY rain overnight has forced the closure today of Bundaberg Regional Library in Woondooma St.

Council has advised that a leak in the roof has caused extensive water damage and the library will remain closed while necessary cleaning and repairs are undertaken.

The council has apologised for any inconvenience this may cause the community and said the library will resume normal operating hours on Monday.
