LETTER: Religious sacrifice of animals is cruel

RECENTLY worldwide outrage ensued when a lion was killed by a hunter.

Last week 100 million camels, goats, sheep and cattle were horrifically and brutally killed as part of the Islamic Festival of Sacrifice - but there was no outrage.

Why?

These animals would have suffered far more than Cecil and their deaths were every bit as unjustifiable.

Why did the killing of a ferocious lion evoke outrage yet the killing of 100 million gentle and inoffensive animals evoke nothing?

Is it because we enjoy eating the latter that we happily turn a blind eye to their suffering?
